Basic Electronics Paper 2 WASSCE (PC), 2019

Question 1

  1. Explain the following terms:

    1. primary cells;

    2. secondary cells.

  2. List three types of oscillators

  3. State three applications of secondary cell.

Observation

The expected responses were:

  1. Explanation of primary and secondary cells

    1. Primary cells are cells in which the chemical reaction that produces electricity cannot be reversed. They cannot be recharged after partial or complete discharge.

    2. Secondary cells are cells in which the chemical reaction responsible for the production of electricity is reversible. These cells can be recharged after partial or complete discharge.
  2. Types of oscillators
    • Wien bridge oscillator

    • Hartley oscillator

    • Colpitts oscillator

    • RC phase-shift oscillator

    • Tuned collector oscillator

    • Crystal oscillator

    • Multivibrators

  3. Applications of secondary cell

    • cell phones

    • rechargeable lamps

    • motor vehicles

    • inverters

    • laptop computes

    • solar energy applications
