In this question, candidates were required to

  1. Describe the following types of milk:

(i) Condensed milk
(ii) Evaporated milk
(iii) Powdered milk

  1. State two importance of milk in child’s diet
  2. Give two milk-based dessert

 

 

 

 

OBSERVATION

Majority of the candidates did not attempt these questions and those that attempted the ‘a’ & ‘c’ part performed poorly. They were unable to Describe the following types of milk: Condensed milk, Evaporated milk and Powdered milk, give two milk-based dessert. However, the (b) part was well attempted by majority of candidates and they answered correctly. The candidates performed very well. The excepted answers are:
Condensed milk: 85% of the quantity of water that is removed and sugar is added/ sweetener to the milk for preservation and also is thicker than evaporate milk.

Evaporated milk:  60% of water is removed from the milk to make it thick to avoid spoilage and that is canned /package.

Powdered milk: 100% of water is removed and turning to powder form and preserved in sachets/ cans should be emphasized.

Milk-based desserts: ice cream, egg custard, rice pudding e t.c.
