Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

Most of the candidates did not do well in the listening comprehension. They could not answer the two open ended questions.
Candidates were unable to realise correctly the following words due to their closeness to English words: “indispensable”, “impossible”. Many of the candidates failed the compulsory liaison when pronouncing “des années” and “ces appareils”.
Candidates had difficulty with topics outside the family, self and school in the conversation test.

      SUGGESTED REMEDIES

Teachers of French should endeavour to speak French to their students in and out of class. They should also encourage their students to do likewise in and outside the class.

Teachers should encourage their students to read French aloud in the classroom.
Dialogues should be simulated in the classroom to help students develop well their conversation skills.

They should also encourage the students to read simple French stories, magazines and journals so as to acquire more vocabulary.
