Candidate's Weakness

Most of the candidates were unable to produce the compulsory liaison in the Reading Passages, many of them also pronounced the following French words the wrong way: occasion, symbole, façon, les habits, importance, l’honneur, and société.


It was observed that most candidates could not give the required answer to the open ended questions in the Listening Comprehension test.


Many of the candidates recited memorised answers during the conversation test when asked question beyond self, family and school.


Suggested Remedies

     

     

  • Teachers of French should endeavour to speak French to their students both inside and outside the classroom. They should also encourage their students to do likewise in and outside the class so as to enable them build their confidence.
  •  

  • Teachers should give students opportunities to read French aloud in the classroom.
  •  

  • Dialogues should be simulated in the classroom to help students develop well their conversation skills.
  •  

  • Quiz, debate and speech competitions should be organised for French students to help them develop fluency and strengthen their vocabulary in French.
  •  

  • They should also encourage the students to read simple French stories, magazines and journals so as to acquire more vocabulary.
