The Chief Examiner reported that Candidates showed weakness in the following areas:

1. Differentiation
2. Coordinate Geometry
3. Probability
4. Combination)
5. Use of Class boundaries or midpoint in plotting histogram
6. Expressing answers in units required
7. Partial Fractions
8. Rank Correlation Coefficient

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

      The Chief Examiner suggested that the following remedies can help in reducing the failure rate in Further Mathematics/Mathematics (Elective):

1. Topics on Vectors and Mechanics should be well attended to while teaching by Teachers.
2. Qualified teachers should be employed to teach the subject.
3. Teachers should endeavour to cover all areas of the teaching curriculum while teaching.
4. Candidates should put in more efforts while studying and adequate practice of exercises.
