The table X below shows the number of farm units in three villages of Oju District in the year 2010. Use the data in Table X to answer the question that follow.
(a) Using the map of Oju District and a radius of 1 cm to represent 3 farm units, construct proportional circles to represent the data.
(b) State two disadvantages of proportional circles.
Observation
This question was attempted by few candidates, majority of whom could not apply square root to reduce the figures before applying the scale given to them. They also did not draw the proportional circle which carried the highest mark for this question. Candidates were to include the following in their answers:
b)(i) Disadvantages of proportional circles
-it is time consuming
-it is difficult to work with due to the mathematical calculations involved
-It is difficult to choose a suitable scale
-it is difficult to convert data back into absolute figures once the circles are constructed
-decimal figures in the data are difficult to work with
