Question 7

 Identify six external factors that aided the nationalists in their struggle for political independence

_____________________________________________________________________________________________________
Observation

.This was a very popular question and was well attempted by majority  of the candidates.  Very good number of candidates did justice to the question by identifying enough points to score very good marks.  Candidates’ overall performance in it was very good.

However, a few weak candidates could not score good marks in the question because they failed to differentiate external factors from other factors hence they went off the point.   Some of the points the good candidates mentioned to score high marks included:

      • the declaration of Atlantic Charter;
      • anti-colonial posture of the United Nations Organization;
      • condemnation of colonialism by British labour party;
      • the defeat of Britain by Japan;
      • the independence of India in 1947 motivated the nationalists struggle, etc.
