This question was not a popular question among the candidates, although, their performance was fair.  In part (a)(i) and (ii) candidates correctly state disadvantage of over-eating and under-eating.  In part (b) candidates could not correctly explain the caloric needs in relation to age; health and occupation, they missed the track and wrote wrong answers such as protein:- beans, eggs/milk; carbohydrates:- eba, vitamins:- fruits  vegetable for the three caloric needs.

 

The expected answers were as follows:
         6 (a)(i) Disadvantages of over-eating

  • It can lead to dyspepsia/discomfort/pain in the stomach
  • It can lead to constipation
  • It can lead to obesity/diseases
  • It can lead to over weight

 
 (ii)       Disadvantages of under-eating
            -           disease may set-in in human body/malnutrition/named
            -           damages vital organs in the body
            -           deforming the human parts of the human body
           -          lose of weight
           -          retarded growth/stunted growth
           -          body weakness/tiredness

(b)       Explanation Caloric need in relation to
           (i)    age:     Caloric need in relation to age means that the caloric requirement of
                              an individual is determined by age to meet their physical, biological
                              and physiological demands.

          (ii)   health:   Caloric need in relation to health means that the caloric requirement
                               of an individual is determined by the state of health of that particular
                               individual in order to improve, maintain and sustain his health.
 
         (iii)   occupation:   It means that the caloric requirement of an individual is 
                                  determined by the nature of his/her work/job in order to perform  
                                  the job effectively/efficiently without suffering from energy
                                  insufficiency.
