named in 8 (a)(ii).    [3 marks]
(b)  Explain the following terms in relation to industrial occupation:          
       (i)  occupational hazard;            [3 marks]
       (ii) industrial health services;    [3 marks]
       (iii) rehabilitation.       [3 marks]
(c)   Mention three food items that could be steamed during food preparation.      [3 marks]

Observation

 

This question was attempted by majority of the candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) (i) some of the candidates could not differentiate between pest and vector correct. In part (a) (ii) many candidates correctly named vector found in homes. In part (a) (iii) many candidates could not give an example each of the disease transmitted by each of the vectors named in 8 (a)(ii). In part (b) (i) some of the candidates could not explain occupational hazard. In part (b) (ii) many candidates could not explain industrial health services. In part (b) (iii) they did not do well in it. In part (c) many candidates correctly mentioned food items that could be steamed during food preparation.
The expected answers are as follows: 
8 (a)(i)    PEST
a pest is an organism that causes damage to crops/destroy food items. 

VECTOR      
a vector is an organism that carries a disease causing-organism/pathogen.                                                                              
(ii)    VECTORS FOUND IN HOMES
-    cockroach

-    rat/named

(iii)   DISEASE TRANSMITTED BY THE VECTORS NAMED IN 4(a)(ii)
Cockroach   -   Typhoid fever/polio/dysentery/diarrhoea
Housefly   -  cholera/diarrhoea/dysentery/typhoid/anthrax/tuberculosis
Mosquito  -   Malaria fever/yellow fever/dengue fever/filariasis
Rat  -             Lassa fever/salmonella/bubonic plague

(b)  EXPLANATION OF TERMS IN RELATION TO INDUSTRIAL OCCUPATION
(i)   Occupational Hazard
This is a dangerous experience which workers are exposed to in performing their daily activities especially people like factory workers/named.

(ii)     Industrial Health Services
These are safety measures put in place by employers to cater for the health
challenges of their workers in an industry/work place/named.

(iii)    Rehabilitation
These are measures for restoring an accident victim in a work place by assisting the individual through constant monitoring/total integration and acceptance in order to live a normal life.
