Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies

Candidates’ weaknesses were observed in these areas:


(1)       poor knowledge of correct spellings;
(2)       ignorance on the literature set books;
(3)       illegible handwritings;
(4)       inability to write the required length in essay writing;
(5)       inability to explain the proverb in the essay before writing.

      SUGGESTED REMEDIES

  • Government should be organizing seminars for Igbo teachers in all the schools from time to time to enable them acquire more knowledge in all areas.
  • Teachers should ensure that candidates adopt the rules and guidelines for Igbo orthography.
  • Teachers should encourage the candidates to buy the recommended literature texts to enable them prepare well for the examination.
  • The schools libraries should be equipped with relevant Igbo grammar and literature books.
  • Teachers should encourage the students to express themselves in sound idiomatic Igbo when conversing.
  • Candidates should develop the attitude of reading novels and continuous writing to improve in their writing skill and avoid spelling error.
  • Teachers should endeavor to teach the students with current WAEC syllabus.
