Islamic Studies Paper 2 WASSCE (SC), 2018

Question 6

  1. Innal- Halala bayyinun wa innal- Harama bayyinun, wabaynahuma umurun mushtabihat  la ya lamuhunna kathirun mina- Nas.

This was a fairly popular question and was attempted by many candidates who performed well. Some candidates did not get the context of the hadith. Rather than giving the exact translation and commenting on the quoted hadith, they were only given the introduction and background of it. However, in order to get good grade, candidates were expected to write on the following points:

  1.  That which is lawful is plain and that which is unlawful is plain and between the two are doubtful matters about which not many people know.
  2. It is obligatory upon Muslims to engage in lawful actions.
  3. Lawful and unlawful things are clear.
  4. There are also doubtful things in regards to permissible acts.
  5. Other permissible acts are also unclear.
  6. It is better to avoid doubtful acts.
  7. Engaging in doubtful acts may incur Allah's displeasure.
  8. For he who deals with the doubtful acts may one day actually deal with the unlawful ones.
  9. Such actions may lead to regrettable ends.
  10. Lawful acts are highly meritorious and rewarding.
  11. Unlawful acts are highly detested by Allah and punishable before Him.
  12. Avoidance of ambiguity protects one's religion and integrity.
