Question 1

Discuss the significance of Styles studio.

Observation

Candidates were required to show the significance of Styles’ studio which is very important in the play.  Most of students wrote on the general political situation of the Blacks in South Africa which is a wrong approach. The following details should be discussed.

(I) The studio as a part of the general setting serves as a window to the life styles of the blacks
(II) The studio provides temporary peace, as a place for interaction and rehabilitation.
(III) The juxtaposition of the studio and the funeral parlour portrays the living condition of the Blacks in South Africa.

Few candidates answered this question very well.
