    How does fear influence Bigger Thomas’ actions in the novel?


Observation

Many candidates attempted this question and they were able to point out instances on the effects of fear in the life of Bigger Thomas.

 

The following points were expected from the candidates:

* Bigger’s fear of the rat and his killing of it.

* Bigger’s background in a black segregated south side of Chicago.

* Bgger’s frustrated dream of flying.

* The aborted robbery.

* His experience of the white world in the Dalton’s home and his smothering of Mary to death, all driven by his fear of failure.

* His decapitation and burning of Mary’s body.

* His murder of Bessie Mears.

 

Candidates’ performance in this question was good.
