Examine the role of Richard’s mother in the novel.

Observation

Ella Wright is Richard’s mother, she plays a very important role in the life of his children.  Ella is a disciplinarian and a wonderful mother.  She teaches Richard morals and to be bold.  Richard’s mother encourages him to imbibe the tenets of Christian religion.  She teaches him to be kind to animals as she forces him to bury the kitten and pray for forgiveness after killing the kitten.  She teaches Richard to face challenges with boldness and fight for his right.  Ella represents the entire women-folk despite her marital trauma, she struggles to survive.  She builds up Richard’s personality.

The question was popular among the candidates and it was well attempted.
