OBSERVATION

Jaja’s failure to take the Holy Communion causes the Palm Sunday clash.  While his father takes the Eucharistic Feast literarily Jaja regards it as symbolical.  This leads to an open confrontation which invariably brings about signs of rebellion and violence by Eugene.  Jaja becomes rebellious and challenges his father authority.  Thus the breaking of the figurines is symbolic indicating Eugene’s loss of hold on his family.
