Comment on the superstitious beliefs and practices in the novel.


 Religious beliefs and practices of the people of Brenhoma which are superstitious include:

  • Worship of deities to help solve their problems e.g. Tano for the fruit of the womb.
  • They believe the deities can intervene to settle disputes.
  • They believe that evil spirits inhabit treetops and wreak all sorts of havoc on them.
  • The lightening that strikes the Wawa tree is considered a bad omen.
  • They believe another world called asamando exists
  • The widows of the dead make sacrifices to part way with their husbands.
  • They pour libation for easy passage of corpse bearer.

 Few Candidates that attempted the question performed poorly
