Asses Santiago as a hero in the novel.







Santiago as a hero, struggles against defeat. Eighty-four days without a catch he is still very hopeful and determines to be successful.  He goes further into the sea than any fisherman has done. His prayer is answered and he faces another battle with the sharks. He encourages himself against all odds showing strength and resilience. His battle with the fish with wounded palm and cramped left arm shows his bravery. The pride in him lures him to achieve the ultimate. He ignores the danger of sailing far out to sea. His pride motivates him to strive against defeat.
Many candidates attempted the question and their performance was fair.
