How does the poet present death as a voyage in Crossing the Bar?


Observation

 

This was a popular question with the candidates. However, many of the candidates from their responses showed little or no understanding of the poem as they could not explain the imageries used by the poet to present death as a voyage.

 

Candidates were expected to discuss the following points:

 

* The notion of death as a transition into eternity.

* The symbols associated with death and nature.

* Symbols associated with voyage.

* The attitude of the persona to his dying.

* The attitude of those he leaves behind.

 

Candidates’ performance was poor.
