Candidates' Weakness

The Chief Examiner observed that candidates were weak in:

  1. manipulating directed numbers;
  2. drawing and reading from quadratic graphs;
  3. representing given information in diagrams;
  4. writing answers to the required degree of accuracy;
  5. Circle Geometry and its applications;
  6. Geometrical construction;
  7. interpretation/solution to  word problems;
  8. Probability;
  9. applying the theories of Logarithms and
  10. Linear Transformation.

 

    SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The following remedies were suggested by the Chief Examiner:

  1. Candidates were encouraged to cover all the topics in the syllabus and do a lot of exercises while preparing for the examination
  2. Teachers as well as candidates were encouraged to put in more effort in studying these weak areas
  3. Teachers were encouraged to use instructional materials during lesson so as to re-enforce the learning of mathematical concepts and make the subject more attractive to students
  4. Candidates were encouraged to represent given information in correct diagrams
Candidates were encouraged to avail themselves of past WASSCE General Mathematics questions.
