            (i)         raising hammer;
            (ii)        planishing hammer.

(b)        State two problems which may occur when a tool bit is set above centre height.
(c)        State the purpose of making the following in designing:
(i)         model;
(ii)        prototype.
(d)       Name one source of fuel used in the forge.

This question seems difficult for the candidates as they were not able to provide the correct responses. The expected responses are as given below:

(i)  The tool rubs the work-piece.
(ii)  The tool drags on the work-piece. 
(iii)  The tool can break.
(iv)  The work will be rough.

 

(c)       The purpose of making the following in designing:

  • Model: 
  •  it is made to test the working principles of a design idea.       
  •  It is used as an example to follow or imitate in the production of an artifact.   
  • Prototype:  It is used to test how the end product will work before mass production.

 

(d)       Naming a source of fuel used in the forge

  • Coal
  • Coke
  • Palm kernel shell
  • Gas
  • Gasoline
