With reference to Praeludium by James Hook.
(a)        In what period of Western music history did the composer live?
(b)        Explain the following terms and signs as used:
            (i)         Allegro Moderato;
            (ii)        pp ma ben articolato;
(iii)       ADEYEMI 4
(iv)       mf.
(c)        Quote the first two bars of the opening phrase of the second section
(in the right hand);
(d)       Apart from the tonic key; mention any other key through which the music passes;
(e)        State the section in which the composer used a block chord in the entire music;
(f)        What is the final cadence.
Candidates were expected to study the Set-piece and respond accordingly to the questions. However, most of the candidates performed poorly in this question and the most apparent cause of the poor performance is non-availability of the prescribed set-pieces. Candidates should have responded to the question in the following manner:

Observation

Candidates’ performance in this question was poor. They could not understand the signs and terms as used in the passage, just like they had difficulties in identifying the compositional devises used. Candidates were expected to respond to the question in the following manner:
(a)        Nigerian                                 

(b)        (i)         Tenor part                   
(ii)        The tenor part should be sung an octave lower than written   
(c)        (i)         2 minim beats in a bar.                                                           
                                                (ii)        Go back to the sign ($ and end at fine)                                    
                                                (iii)       Hold the note for a long time
