Objectives of the modem Olympic games

  • To encourage international understanding
  • To encourage healthy rivalry among nations through sports
  • To demonstrate the ideals of sports among nations through competitions
  • To bring the youths of the world together every four years to exchange ideas.
  • To demonstrate the principle of fair play and good sportsmanship.

Recreational facilities

  • Pitches/Open spaces/field
  • Swimming pools Rivers/ponds/streams/lakes/lagoons/beaches/N ames Amusement centres
  • Forest environment/reserves Gymnasium
  • Zoological garden/park Botanical garden/park Museum

Differences between intra-mural and extra-mural sports competitions

  • Intra-mural sports competitions are organized within an institution while extra-mural sports competitions are organized among institutions;
  • Intra-mural sports competition involves only students from the same institution while extra-mural sports involve students from different institutions;
  • Extra-mural sports competition has wider scope of organization than the intra-mural sports competition/Explained;
  • It is less expensive to organize intra-mural sports competition than extra-mural sports competition;
  • Intra-mural sports is meant for all students in the school while extra-mural sports is for selected students/athletes.
