Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates. While the candidates' performance was good in question 8(a), few candidates performed fairly in question 8(b).

The expected answers were as follows:

(b) First aid for a person who has fainted:

  • Lay the casualty down on the back
  • Raise the legs slightly above the level of his head Ensure that he has plenty of air
  • Loosen clothing around him in a recovery position
  • If breathing is difficult, place him in a recovery position Reassure him as he regains consciousness
  • Gradually raise him into a sitting position and give sips of water if requested
  • If recovery is not rapid or complete, the victim should be taken to a medical personnel
