9. (a) (i)  What is a bye?                    [2 marks]            
(ii)  State the difference between a bye and a seeding in a tournament.   [2 marks]
(b)  State six causes of violence during sporting activities.     [6 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a(i) and (ii) candidates could not correctly defined bye and they also could not state the difference  between a bye and a seeding in a tournament they wrongly defined bye opportunity for winning competition tournament. In part (b) candidates correctly stated causes of violence during sporting activities.
However, the expected answers are as follows:


9(a)   (i)  A BYE

Is an arrangement where a team/player is exempted from participating in the first round of a competition

 

(ii) DIFFERENCE BETWEEN BYE AND SEEDING IN A TOURNAMENT

-  In bye and team/player is exempted in the first round of a competition
- In seeding teams/players are arranged on the tournament chart so that the more skilful teams/players do not meet one another in the first round.

 

(b)   CAUSES OF VIOLENCE DURING SPORTING ACTIVITIES
-   poor officiating
-   poor sportsmanship
-   unbridled fanaticism
-   indiscipline
-   frustration/unfulfilled reward
-   lack of crow control
-   ignorance of rules of games

-   poor organisation
