(a) Mention five factors to be considered in planning a diet for an athlete.                [5 marks]
 (b)(i) mention two major classes of food nutrients ideal for an athlete running
              1,500 metres.                                                                                                  [2 marks]                                                                             (ii) name one nutrient that is usually given to athletes during sports
                  performance.                                                                                               [1 mark]
  (c)  Give two reasons why safety precautions are necessary in sports.                      [2 marks]

Observation

This question was attempted by many candidates and their performance was fair. In part (a) many candidates were able to mention factors to be considered in planning a diet for an athlete. In part (b) (i) majority of the candidates could not answer this question correctly. In part (b) (ii) majority of the candidates were unable to name nutrient that is usually given to athletes during sports performance. In part (c) many candidates were able to give reasons why safety precautions are necessary in sports.
The expected answers are as follow:
