Weakness and Remedies

 

 

The following were observed as the candidates’ weaknesses. Inability to:

  • read measurements made from instruments like metre rule, stop watch, thermometer, ammeter, voltmeter, protractor, etc;
  • express their calculations to the required number of decimal places or significant figures;
  • express decimal figures to standard form;
  • plot graph when values are negative;
  • present graph with appropriate scales;
  • complete their work within the stipulated time;
  • answer question base on the theoretical knowledge.

The following remedies were proffered:

  • Ministry of education should ensure that school laboratories are well equipped with sophisticated apparatus for experiment;
  • Ministry of education should ensure that there is at least one graduate teacher of Physics in every school;
  • Teachers must subject student to laboratory work at least once a week especially those in senior secondary classes;
  • Teachers should endeavor to attend WAEC coordination and marking exercise to acquire more experience;
  • Parents should be sanctioned for poor attitude towards providing textbooks for their wards.
Teachers should be subjected to rigorous in-service training to improve and acquaint themselves with the latest knowledge in science.
