CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES

Some of the weaknesses observed in the candidates’ scripts were:

1. Wrong placement of shorthand outlines which made it hard for them to transcribe what they jotted down;
2. Poor spelling and wrong use of words;
3. Failure to follow adhere strictly to rubrics;
4. Typographical errors;
5. Inconsistent punctuation;
6. Wrong alignment of figures and margin;

SUGGESTED REMEDIES

The following remedies were suggested towards improving the performance of candidates in subsequent examinations:

1. Candidates should focus on drilling with the use of short forms, phrases and contractions in shorthand so as to improve their speed;
2. Candidates should improve on their spelling and correct usage of English grammar so as to avoid grammatical errors;
3. Adequate computers should be provided in schools;
4. More time should be allotted to practice before the examination
5. Qualified teachers should be employed in the teaching of the subject with emphasis on the practical aspects of the syllabus;
6. The importance of rubrics should be emphasized to the candidates during practice before examinations.
