Question 2

  1. (a)       The plan and elevation of a triangular lamina are given below:
  1. copy the given views;
  2. draw the true shape of the lamina;
  3. state the true length of the sides;
  4. measure and state the true angle of inclination to the horizontal plane.

The centres of two circles of diameter 30 and 20 respectively are 70 apart.
  Plot the locus of a point equidistant from the circumference of each circle.

OBSERVATION

Candidates were expected to:

  1. copy the given views correctly;
  2. draw the front elevation and plan correctly;
  3. project from plan and take measurements from elevation to get the auxiliary elevation;
  4. project from elevation and take measurements from plan to get the auxiliary plan (True shape of the lamina);
  5. state true lengths of the sides;
  6. state the true angle of inclination to the horizontal plane.

The solution is shown below

                       Candidates were expected to:

  1. draw three centre lines;
  2. draw two circles with diameter 30 and 20 with centres 70 apart;
  3. bisect the distance between the circumference of the two circles;
  4. make equal divisions on both sides of the midpoint;
  5. number to the left of the midpoint 1, 2,3 and to the right 11, 21, 31 etc;
  6. draw intersecting arcs from centres M and N;
  7. join the intersection points into a smooth curve.

The solution is shown below:

                        (b)
