Observation

Candidates’ performance was good. The question was attempted by most of the candidates.
They were expected to respond to the question thus:


    • Colour is the waves of light separated by different things before reaching our eyes.

    • It is the decomposition of white light which is composed of seven colours.

    • A kind of pigment applied to a surface, shape and designs to make it more appealing to the sense.

    • Tints and shades which are put together to represent various scenes in nature.

    • It is a fascinating element of design.

    • To the artist, colour is a pigment.

    • Colour is used for mood/visual communication.


    • Colour is used for decoration.

    • Colour is used for identification.

    • Colour is used for indication.

    • It is a material used in designing.

    • Colour is used for symbolism.

    • Colour is used for therapy.

    1. Cool colours
      • Colours that have psychological cooling effect.

      • Optically, they tend to recede into the distance.

      • They are blue, green and purple.

      • Colours with blue in them.

      • Colours which appear opposite to warm colours on the colour wheel.
    2. Analogous colours
      • Colours that are closely related.

      • Colours that lie side by side on the colour wheel.

      • Colours that have common basic colours.

      • Examples are blue, violet and green/orange, yellow and green.

    3. Colour intensity
      • The purity of a colour.

      • It is the brilliancy of a colour.

      • Free of contaminations by other colours.

      • Free from neutral element.

      • Examples are primary colours in their pure state.

      • Another name for intensity is chroma.
    4. Hue
      • It is the identity of any colour.

      • The actual colour.

      • It is another name for colour.

      • It is the quality which distinguishes one colour from another.
