Visual Art Paper 2, May/June 2010

Question 1
(Drawing from Objects)
Candidates were expected to draw the following objects in a good composition and close to a good source of light.
(a)     a pair of men's boot
(b)     a tin of shoe polish
(c)     a shoe brush
(d)     a soft cloth used for polishing shoes.

This is a popular question among the candidates. A good number of them were able to put up impressive attempts, by indicating properly the source of light and giving form and solidity to objects through effective use of shading in graded tones.
However, some candidates, rather than draw from observation drew from their imagination. Some of these candidates presented only the shapes of the objects and this made their works to be without form, sketchy and unidentifiable.
