CANDIDATES’  WEAKNESSES
                                The following weaknesses were perceptible  in the works of the candidates: 
                    
                      - Inability to comprehend questions
 
                    Many candidates  obviously did not understand the requirements of the questions, especially in  the graphic design aspects. For example in question (1) where candidates were  required to design a product package, some candidates created poster.
                    
                      - Poor Technical proficiency
Candidates found  it difficult to construct letters as required in some of the questions on  graphic design. Illustrations and imaginative compositions were poorly executed.  Letterings were made illegible for effective delivery of messages in poster  design. Perspective and proportion were also disregarded and compositions in  the painting aspects lacked unity.
                    
                      - Poor knowledge and application of  colours
 
                    Candidates  demonstrated lack of knowledge of the theory and application of colours.  Colours were combined without any consideration for harmony. 
                             SUGGESTED REMEDIES
                      The weaknesses  identified above could be addressed through the following: 
                      (1)        Understanding  of  the elements and principles of art
                      A good understanding  and application of the elements and principles of art will be of great value to  candidates in the creative design examination. This will help them in creating  effective posters and imaginative compositions.
                      (2)        Exposure to quality art works
                      Students should  be exposed to quality art works through visits to art exhibitions, advertising  agencies and media houses. They can also subject themselves to tutelage in  established art studios or under competent professionals.
                      (3)        Constant practice
                      Students should  learn to draw at all times. Therefore, it is necessary that they arm themselves  with sketch books to enable them engage in constant practice of drawing.
