Figure 1 shows the sketch of a shaped picture frame set out on a piece of wood.  Use it to answer question 2 (a).
                       
                                   
            (a)        (i)         List two portable power tools to be used to cut out the picture frame.
(ii)         State two safety precautions to be taken when cutting out the picture
            frame.

                        (b)        State two merits of a co-operative business venture.

Observation

Candidates were expected to attempt this question correctly.  It was reported that candidates performed poorly in this questions.

The solution is stated as follows:

(A)        (i)         -           power drill;
-           portable jig saw;
-           portable router.

.                                   (ii)         -           make sure tools are in good working condition;
-           make use of the appropriate tool for the right job;
-           wear goggles;
-           make sure the workpiece is properly secured;
-           make sure the cutters for each power tool is tightly fixed;
-           hold each power tool firmly while in use;
-           wear appropriate workshop clothing;
-           make sure cutters are sharp;
-           switch off and unplug before making adjustments.

(B)                    Two merits of a co-operative business venture:

-           easy access to getting business funds;
-           combined expertise;
-           shared risk;
-           death of member is not end of business.
