Yoruba Paper 2 WASSCE (PC), 2022

Candidate's Weakness

Candidates’ weaknesses include:

  1. Lack of proper understanding of some essay topics, this led to loss of marks for content. Some of them failed to write up to three hundred (300) words on the topics they chose. For instance, those who wrote on the topic ‘Bí mo bá di ààrẹ orílẹ̀-èdè mi’’only focused on the military system of government rather than writing on what they will do if they become the president of their nation.
  2. Lack of exposure to selected Literature texts (Oral and Written)
  3. Poor orthography e.g. dotting of letters, inappropriate use of tone marks, many of them lost marks to inability to tone mark words written in the modern orthography.
  4. Inability to write correct spelling of terms in Yoruba.
  5. Lack of in-depth knowledge of the phonological aspect of the subject. Many of them could not decribe the organs of speech listed for them.
  6. Inability to differentiate between main verbs and verb phrases.
