CANDIDATES’ WEAKNESSES AND SUGGESTED REMEDIES
The observed weaknesses of the candidates this year include
- inability to answer questions on some topics e.g. in ecology and genetics.
- inability to express their answers in clear English words.
- inability to spell technical terms.
- poor handwriting
- inability to state the function of the parts in a dicotyledonous leaf.
- inability to state the function of the parts in the stem of a flowering plant.
- inability to state the differences between the internal structures of the stem and root of a maize seedling.
- inability to make a genetic diagram of the dihybrid cross.
- some candidates could not state the mode of feeding in the listed organisms.

The following remedies were proffered to overcome the weaknesses:
- candidates should cover the syllabus before taking the examinations.
- candidates should improve on their written English.
- candidates should read and understand a question properly before attempting it;
- candidates study ecology and genetics properly.
- candidates should study past questions and Chief Examiner’s Report;
- candidates should avoid copying answers.
