Observation

 

This question was less popular as it attracted a few percentages of candidates and their performances were not as incredible as compared to other questions. The weakness recorded in the question is that some candidates were unable to tell the difference between HIV and AIDS. Points candidates could have given are

 

THE MAJOR DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HIV AND AIDS

HIV means Human Immune Deficiency Virus that can be transmitted through body fluid from infected person which can be managed through Anti – retroviral drugs / therapy while Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) is a stage three of HIV and an incurable medical condition that destroys the immune system of the untreated HIV infected person and ultimately kill the carrier.

ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS OF HIV/AIDS ON THE GROWTH OF A NATION          

  1. Loss of manpower/Depletes manpower

  2. Under-population

  3. Capable of reversing economic growth and development/economic decline.

  4. Decrease in productivity

  5. Increase in dependency ratio.

  6. Capable of reducing taxable population / internally generated revenue

  7. Diversification of public spending from investment in physical and human capital to health – related expenditure.

  8. Increase in the rate of poverty

  9. Increase in the rate of unemployment.

  10. Loss of income/means of livelihood
