(a) Give three reasons for the persistent stigmatization of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in Nigeria
(b)Â Suggest six ways by which the problem of stigmatization of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) could be addressed.
Observation
This question was equally popular. Candidates were well informed about HIV/AIDS thus, questions coming from such aspect of the syllabus seems as though it is a bonus for them. Most of the candidates who attempted it performed creditably well and scored high marks. Nevertheless, in the B part, some candidates deprived themselves of good marks as they wrote on measure of preventing HIV/AIDS as against the problem of stigmatization. In some other instances, they were writing about the cause for the spread of HIV/AIDS thereby deviating from the demands of the question. Candidates were expected to provide the following answers to

- HIV/AIDS is a life threatening disease.
- Because of erroneous beliefs about HIV/AIDS spread from PLWHA to HIV/AIDS negative persons.
- Self-protection consciousness of HIV/AIDS negative persons.
- Fear of being infected.
- Non-existence of known cure for HIV/AIDS.
- High cost of treatment.
- WAYS BY WHICH THE PROBLEM OF PEOPLE LIVING WITH HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) COULD BE ADDRESSED
- Awareness creation.
- Public display/demonstration of love for PLWHA.
- Enactment of laws prohibiting stigmatization.
- Enforcement of sanctions of violators of the law.
- Emphasis on solution to stigmatization in the existing school subjects on HIV/AIDS education e.g. Social Studies, Civic Education etc.
- Drastic reduction on the cost of treatment of PLWHA.
- Affirmative action policy on employment opportunities for PLWHA in government and private sectors.
