And (b) which was on areas on garment where interfacings are used was answered correctly by few candidates too.

(c). on explanation of factors to consider when choosing an interfacing only 4 or 5 candidates did the question correctly. The expected answers are:
- Effect required
The desired effect will influence the choice - whether a firm tailored effect or a slight crispness is required. The examples require different textures of interfacing.
- Weight of fabric
The fabric of the interfacing must be lighter in weight than the fabric of the garment.
- Durability
The interfacing must be hardwearing and should have the same life span as the fabric of the garment.
- Washability
If the garment is washable then the interfacing must also be washable but if it should be dry cleaned then the interfacing should also be dry cleaned.
- Whether to use plain or iron-on interfacing
The type chosen will depend on the part of the garment being interfaced, e.g. iron-on on fairly small areas and plain interfacing on larger areas.
- Compatibility of garment with interfacing in terms of care
Interfacing chosen should have the same care treatment as the fabric used for the outer garment.
(d) On difference between lining and inter facing was answered correctly by only few candidates the question correctly. Interfacing: is a layer of fabric sewn between the main part of the garment and the hem and facing.
