Candidates’ weaknesses include:

(1)     Improper  use of punctuation and diacritic marks;
(2)      Inability to write extensively on chosen topics. They wrote below the  required 300 words;
(3)      Inability to arrange points in logical sequence;
(4)     Poor  mechanical accuracy;
(5)      Carelessness as regards the use of appropriate orthography; 
(6)     Inability  to give a detailed answer to questions on set texts.
                                                    
Suggested Remedies
 (1)     Recommended textbooks should be made  available to the students by their parents.
      (2)     Qualified Ẹdo teachers should be  employed.
      (3)     Ẹdo teachers should be encouraged to  attend seminars to update their knowledge in the       
      teaching of the subject.
      (4)     Teachers should make sure that candidates  are taught all aspects of essay writing before they sit              
      for  the examination.
      (5)     Candidates should cultivate good reading  habits.
