COMPREHENSION PASSAGE
The passage was interesting and offered a subject matter that was within the experience and grasp of the candidates. Some understood the story and were able to answer questions based on the passage correctly. Aside this, the information required for answering content questions correctly was very clear in the passage. The performance of the candidates was fairly good consequent on the simplicity of the comprehension passage. However, some candidates did not demonstrate a clear understating of the passage. Such candidates resorted to copying portions of the passage as answers.
In Question 6(e), candidates could not interpret the attitude of one of the characters in the story in just one word. In question 6(g), many of the candidates did not know the age range of ‘an early septuagenarian.’ Instead of ‘between 70 and 74 years’ or ‘early 70’s’, many gave absurd interpretations.
