Observation

This question was fairly attempted by the candidates.  In 2(a-b), majority of the candidates were able to list the materials required for the smoking of fish as well as name the items used in artificial breeding of fish.  However, most them could neither describe the methods of applying fertilizer to fish ponds nor draw a suitable diagram to show the marketing channels of farmed fish as required in 2(c-d).

The expected answers include:

2 (c)    Methods of applying fertilizer to fish ponds

            Broadcasting            - Fertilizer is spread evenly and directly into pond water or pond bottom.

                                             - It is labour intensive and workers could be exposed to
                                                 health hazards.

                   
             Sack method -           Fertilizer/ manure is put in a sack and the sack is
                                               placed/submerged into pond water.

                                  -         Nutrients leach out slowly from fertilizer/ manure into pond water.

                                  -           Sack is withdrawn when no longer required
