Candidates' Strengths
Candidates exhibited their strength in the way they answered questions, they were able to answer questions straight to the point and they stated and listed answers as required of them.
Also, the constrained paper is of advantage in the sense that candidates were able to write the exact points required of them unlike when they had the whole answer booklet and they would write even unnecessary answers.
Candidates performed exceptionally in questions 4, 5 (b) and 6 (b). In question 4 (a), candidates successfully sketched different types of kitchen layout and many of them added additional information that was not required of them by labelling the work areas.
Also, candidates were able to state the rules for maintaining kitchen hygiene in 4 (b) and the advantages of a well-planned kitchen in 4 (c). This is an indication of a mastery of this topic by the students. In questions 5 (b), candidates were able to state the reasons for cooking food, many of them further stated more than the required number of points. Likewise, candidates provided satisfactory responses to question 6 (b) where they stated different ways of serving fruits.
