The Chief Examiner reported that this question attracted majority of the candidates and they performed very well in it. Their performance was reported to be better in part (a) than in part (b).
In part (a), majority of the candidates reportedly obtained the total number of person on the panel as 5+3 = 8. Candidates were also able to show that the number of ways of forming the committee of 3 out of the 8 panelist was 8C3 = = 56.
In part (b), majority of the candidates were reportedly able to show that the probability of at least one woman being on the committee = 1 – probability that no woman was on the committee = 1 -= 1.
