Identify five ways in which democracy was stalled any time the military took over the administration of Nigeria.
Observation
This was a popular question among the candidates. Majority of candidates attempted this question performed very well. Their performance in the question was equally very superb and impressive. The candidates were expected to provide the following as answers to the question.
- The constitution was suspended
- Parliament was dissolved
- Rule by decrees/edit
- Freedom of the press was curtailed/restricted
- Fundamental human rights were disregarded/abused/infringed upon
- Rule of Law was disregarded
- Establishment of ‘Kangaroo courts’/tribunals
- Citizens did not receive fair trial/justice from the military tribunals
- People lived in constant fear
- All democratic institutions were suppressed/dissolved
- Culture of silence was instituted
- Tendency to hang on to power
