This is also a question on phonology and candidates were expected to define a syllable and to identify the syllable structure of the above words.

(a) Gaɓa ita ce yankin baƙi da wasali a cikin kalma. Wato baƙi da wasali su ne
tubalan ginin gaɓa. Misali, a kalmar makaranta, akwai gaɓoɓi huɗu; wato da ma’ da ‘ka’ da ‘ran’ da kuma ‘ta’.
Ko kuwa: (i). akushi = ‘a/ku/shi, wato BW/BW/BW ; (ii). tu’annati = tu/’an/na/ti, wato BW/BWB/BW/BW; (iii). ka’in-da-na’in = ka/’in/da/na/’in, wato BW/BWB/BW/BW/BWB; (iv). Shagwaɓaɓɓiya = sha/gwa/ɓaɓ/ɓi/ya, wato BW/BW/BWB/BW/BW; (v). iskokai = ‘is/ko/kai, wato BWB/BW/BWW.
Candidates’ performance on this question was not encouraging.
