Observation

Candidates were asked to write (a) reasons why Ugochi cried in Pastor Daniel’s house; (b) things Pastor Daniel told Ugochi when she was crying.

These were the expected answers:

• The fear that Eze Onyewere would kill her if she ventured to go home.
1. The husband calling her an abominable name.
2. Eze chased her with a matchet and wanted to chop off her head when she went to collect her children.
3. The ban placed on her by her husband not to enter the house.
4. The instruction given to neighbours by her husband to report to him any time they set eyes on her.
5. Eze using ọmụ to barricade the door, preventing her from entering the house.
6. Eze waiting for her with a matchet to kill her.
• To stop crying, that all would be well.
1. Since her husband was responsible for her pregnancy, he would not allow her to live in the church premises.
2. That he would convince nwa Diishi to give her police escort to accompany her home.

Almost all the candidates who tried this number answered out of point, so scored zero. Some said that Ugochi was crying because she did not have a son. That the policemen were to guard her instead of escorting her home, etc.
