Observation
Candidates were asked to explain, (a) the term ‘Iha mmiri (evoking of rain)’, who does it, lists of materials required for it and the gifts given to the people that do it; (b) the term ‘akwamozu (burial rites)’ and list the categories of people that do not deserve the rite.
The following were the expected answers:
- Evoking of rain artificially based on time and place.
- It is done by rainmakers
- Materials used for evoking rain include: grasses, wood, stone, etc.
- Gifs given to the rainmakers – fowl, yam, drink, kolanut, food , money, etc.
- Akwamozu – ceremonial rites performed in the honour of a dead person.
- Sets of people not accorded this rite - children, those who committed suicide, those who were drowned, thieves, slaves, etc.
Many candidates who attempted this question did well.
