Candidates' Weakness and Suggested Remedies
Candidates displayed the following:
(1) spelling errors;
(2) inability to interpret questions to know their demands;
(3) poor punctuation skills;
(4) inability to answer questions on literature strictly according to the texts.
SUGGESTED REMEDIES
- Teachers should coach candidates to always interpret questions before attempting them.
- Teachers should take the necessary steps to make the teaching of Igbo more interactive.
- Parents should encourage the use of Igbo in their homes in order to build the vocabulary of their children in the target language.
- Schools should ensure that their students possess all the recommended text books.
- Schools should take students on excursion to sites where cultural items are available.
- Teachers should go the extra mile to make sure that all recommended texts are read with the candidates.
- Students should be periodically assessed to ascertain their strengths and weaknesses.
- The school libraries should be equipped with relevant Igbo grammar and literature books.
- Teachers should drill their students on Igbo phonology and grammar to enable them get a better grasp of the aspect.
- Teachers should endeavour to cover the syllabus before the commencement of the examination.
