Observation

A good number of candidates attempted this question and many of them just gave a mere narration of the text as they could not explain the significance of Conrad’s death.

Candidates were expected to mention the following points:

i. Identification and death of Conrad.
Manfred’s marriage arrangement.
ii. The effect of Conrad’s death on the arrangement.
iii. Introduction of Theodore into the plot and the effect.
iv. Exposition of the negative aspects of Manfred’s character.

Candidates’ performance in the question was fair.
