To what extent are men portrayed as oppressors of women in the novel?
Observation
This was a popular question. Most of the candidates focused only on Fofo’s oppression, leaving out the experiences of other characters.
The following points should be well developed by candidates:
- Statement of the central theme.
- Identification of the male and female characters: Kwei, Kpakpo, Onko. Maa Tsuru, Adade, Kabria, Poison etc.
- The roles of the characters in the advancement of the plot.
- Establish the kind of relationship that exist between them.
- The extent to which men are portrayed as oppressors of women.
Candidates’ performance in this question was good.
