Question 6
RICHARD WRIGHT: Native Son
Examine Bigger’s visit to Bessie in the novel.
Observation
This was an unpopular question among candidates. The few who attempted the question gave a mere narration of what they know about Bigger and Bessie. They failed to bring out the significance of Bigger’s visit to Bessie.
The following points should be well developed by the candidates:
- Statement of the theme.
- Character identification.
- Presentation of information about Bigger’s evasive and violent nature.
- Demonstration of fear among Blacks.
- A lead to the sub-plot of the story
Candidates’ performance was fair
